ERIN & 1 PUP RESERVED

We named this poor creature Erin, she's a female collie only approx a year old and is skin & bone, how she's survived with pups who are approx 4 weeks old is a minor miracle.   Found near Lake Orla and brought into care she is having 4 small meals a day at present, and has at least gone to sleep in a comfortable bed tonight with food in her poor emaciated body.   Weaning will commence immediately with the pups in order to give her a chance to recuperate.   She's a sweet natured little dog, friendly & so grateful for food & affection.   When recovered she will be spayed and make a loving, loyal pet.   She deserves a kind & caring home after all she has been through.   Again, we have to say there was no need for her to be in pup and certainly no need to dump her.   We have never refused anyone help so her owner couldn't have asked for it.   People may have to wait for help when we are full but never for too long.   It is disgraceful that people can do this to defenceless animals and get away with it.

JJ is a small female x bred yorkshire terrier, found at the side of the road in the Aughamore area in an appalling condition.
Terrified of everything & everyone,  hair missing from her face, neck, ears, due to  mites causing a severe skin infection.   Her ear has been badly damaged, probably by another dog attacking her, not treated and fused together wrongly.   She's not an old dog, but her front teeth are missing and the rest in need of vetinerary treatment, all of these complaints make her look older than she is at the moment, but the skin condition is being treated,  already improved & is non contagious thankfully!   Her teeth & gums will be treated as soon as she has gained a little more condition.   No longer terrified, she is a dear little dog, now very comfortable & quite contented.   If anyone wishes to see her with a view to reserving her for a home later when she is totally well then please do contact us as we're desperate for space, kennels are full and JJ would benefit greatly from a quiet household with one to one care, she's no trouble to care for.   Who would do this to a dear little dog?

Buster is a mature male x bred labrador, he was originally abandoned and very afraid due to fear,  however he has come a long way in foster care with Kathy, and is now an affectionate, undemanding dog who accepts other dogs, is good with children, although we would prefer a home with older children as he's a mature dog.   He's healthy, house trained, good on a lead & generally well mannered & behaved.   He would be a lovely companion dog.

Ross seen here in foster care with a companion hound that he gets along so well with.

Ross is a mature male hound x.

A well behaved, healthy, gentle dog who loves attention, sleeping, is good with most other dogs, lead/house trained & generally very obedient - unless he sees a rabbit or cat, which he will chase!   Ross is neutered, fully vaccinated, flea/worm & kennel cough treated.   We really need to find him a kind home as soon as possible, he has been in foster care now since April, 2010, is a super dog, no trouble to care for really and would make a wonderful companion pet.

SAOIRSHE is a 3 year old female labrador x breed, she is spayed, fully vaccinated & in excellent health.   She has been a much loved pet and needs a new home through a change in domestic circumstances and no fault of her own.   A large, well built dog, she is an absolute pet, great on recall, very obedient, fully house & lead trained, gets on well  with other dogs, and would enjoy the company of another dog in her new home.

SUZI & SALLY ARE NOW RESERVED
SUZI & SALLY
Suzi & Sally are two young female labrador/setter x dogs who were apparently left in a shed most of their lives.

Fed occasionally, let out for a few minutes occasionally!   Despite having had little socialisation they both have beautiful natures, are friendly, affectionate, intelligent, good with other dogs & people.   They are very underweight at the moment, but regular meals will soon put that right, otherwise they are healthy and have lovely coats.   They will need some time to adjust to their new surroundings and are in one-to-one foster care which will help them with socialisation and training.   As soon as they have gained weight they will be spayed and can be rehomed separately or together to a home with a secure garden area with someone who has the time for the continued training they will no doubt need.   A great pity that someone felt the need to put them in a shed and ignore them for most of their puppyhood as they are beautiful looking dogs with temperaments to match.

 Bonding with your Pup:

If you want to quickly bond with a new pup or rescue dog. Masticate a piece of white bread till it is a gooey then feed this as a tit bit to the pup/dog for the first 7 days. You only need to do this once a day; it mimics the regurgitation process when pups and cubs are being weaned in the wild, this really helps them bond more quickly and therefore settle in much sooner.

We wish to advise cat owners that one pair of breeding cats unneutered/unspayed can theoretically produce 37,000 cats in a 7 year period!   Breeding commences at 6 months of age.   If your cat has a litter of kittens not only will female kittens from that litter reproduce at 6 months but the Mother cat will have yet another litter!     We have discounted price vouchers available for neutering/spaying your cat and request that you be a responsible cat owner & prevent further litters from being born.   Please do ring us for a voucher.
All cats over 6 months rehomed from Mayo Spca are already neutered/spayed.

We would like to remind people who keep outdoor or 'shed' cats to catch rats/mice, that a cat is unable to hunt unless it is well fed.   They do not have the strength to hunt  without good feeding and NO MILK!   Cats cannot digest milk that has been produced for human consumption.

If you decide to adopt one of our Cats or Kittens, please know that there is an adoption fee of €30.

Jack & Sparrow are one male and one female sibling kittens.   Approx 16 weeks old, healthy, litter trained, a little nervous due to their abandonment so early in life, but non aggressive and in need of a little tlc & nurturing, in return for which they will be lovely pets.   They can be rehomed separately or together to a home where they are allowed to be indoors with access to outdoors.   Both have been worm/flea treated and vet checked.

Sheba is a young female cat brought into care after being found by a member of the public.   She was taken into a vets to be put to sleep as she had a broken hip, but fortunately for Sheba the vet in question called ourselves.   Apart from the hip problem she was a healthy cat and the broken hip could be treated.   She is now well and ready for a home, litter trained, a very affectionate & gentle young cat who needs a home where she can live indoors with access to outdoors.   She will be spayed before being rehomed and deserves to live as part of a family.
